MicroBuddies™ Beta Setup Guide
Welcome to the MicroBuddies Beta Walkthrough!
During the beta, starting October 5, Nano Factory Token holders will be able to play the game on a test network and provide valuable feedback necessary to get MicroBuddies ready for its Mainnet release!
This walkthrough will guide everyone through the process of setting up their MetaMask for Polygon’s Mumbai Testnet, obtaining free Testnet MATIC tokens to pay for gas, synthesizing a Generation 0 MicroBuddy, and providing feedback on Discord!
Prerequisites
In order to participate in the beta test, you only need three things:
- MetaMask
- At least one Nano Factory Token on the snapshot date
- & an expectation to find plenty of bugs and improvements to be made. (This is a test after all!)
A full guide for setting up MetaMask and acquiring your first Nano Factory token can be found here.
The snapshot date for Nano Factory Tokens is Monday, October 4 @ 7PM ET. If you have not purchased/are not holding a Nano Factory token by then, you will not be able to enter this first round of the beta. We will only do more beta rounds if necessary for testing.
Connecting to Mumbai
The first step is to add Polygon’s Mumbai Testnet to your MetaMask wallet. This is a blockchain separate from the Ethereum and Polygon Mainnets and was made specifically for testing. All the funds here are “fake”, for testing purposes, so you don’t need to worry much. However, your private key is the same as on the Mainnet, so as always, keep that secure!
1. In MetaMask, click the network selection dropdown and select “Custom RPC”.
2. On the Settings page that opens, add the following:
- Network Name — Mumbai
- New RPC URL — https://matic-mumbai.chainstacklabs.com/
- Chain ID — 80001
- Symbol — MATIC
- Block Explorer URL — https://mumbai.polygonscan.com/
3. You’re all set! “Mumbai” should now be an option in the network selection dropdown!
Funding your wallet
You will need some Testnet MATIC tokens to pay gas fees on Polygon’s Mumbai Testnet. Luckily, it’s super simple (and free!) to fund your wallet!
- Open your MetaMask extension and copy your wallet address by clicking the account name.
- Visit https://faucet.polygon.technology/
- Ensure Network is set to “Mumbai”; Select Token is set to “Matic Token”.
- Enter your wallet address, click submit, and then confirm!
Note: If you receive a “Transfer failed” error related to the transaction being underpriced, you can spam click on “try again” until the transaction shows in progress.
If all goes well, you should see 0.1 MATIC pop up in your MetaMask. This should fund a decent number of transactions. You can claim more MATIC once every minute!
Synthesizing your Gen 0
Alright, now for the fun part — busting open those Nano Factory Tokens! Remember, the MicroBuddies you get here are for testing purposes only! There are no guarantees you will get the same buddies during the Mainnet launch. And rest assured that your actual Nano Factory Tokens will not be consumed, only the Testnet ones.
- Head to https://beta.microbuddies.io when the beta goes live.
- Connect your wallet using the connect button at the top right of the page.
- Once connected, click the button in the bottom right that says “Use Nano Factory Token”.
- Confirm the first transaction, which is to approve our smart contract to spend your Nano Factory Tokens.
- Once the first transaction is confirmed, another transaction will pop up which will use a Nano Factory Token to create a Gen 0 MicroBuddy!
- Once the second transaction is confirmed (you can use “view transaction” to watch it on-chain), head over to https://beta.microbuddies.io/my-buddies to get a first-hand look at your new Buddy! (You may have to refresh a couple of times).
Congratulations! You now have a Generation 0 test-buddy! Use the top navigation panel to engage in the various features of the game. You’ll spend the most time in the GRC 😉
Providing Feedback on Discord
The final and most important part of any beta test is providing feedback! We can’t know about an important bug or feature you‘ve discovered unless you report it!
You can verify you own a Nano Factory Token and receive special access to the Gen 0 section of our Discord (including beta feedback) by:
- If you haven’t already, join https://discord.gg/microbuddies and complete the verification Captcha.
- Enter “!join” (without quotes) in the #verification channel under the “OWNERS ONLY” category.
- You will receive a PM from our Collab.Land bot with further instructions to connect your wallet!
Tip: You’ll know you are sync’d up on Discord when you can see the #buddy-lounge chat channel and have the “Gen 0” role (green G next to your name on desktop).
Reminder: What happens on the Testnet, stays on the Testnet! The Nano Factory Tokens you use are not your actual Nano Factory Tokens, and the MicroBuddies you create are not guaranteed to be the same ones you create when the game resets and launches on the Mainnet.
